Meet our elders
Howdy! My name is John Albers. Through God’s grace in my life I have been privileged to be a
part of the leadership team of our church since its beginning. My wife and I have been married for over 17 years and we are
blessed to have four children. We moved to southern Maryland in 1999 where we have been attending SouthPoint since its
initial formation in 2004. My service has been a challenging but VERY rewarding journey along which Jesus has changed me in
many ways. I am blessed to serve our country as a Marine officer and test pilot at the NAS – a dream that I had as a
young boy. I love being a family man, good friends, and aviation. While I am not a computer nerd and I shave almost
daily I do smile frequently and love Dr. Pepper!!
My name is Jared Cox. My wife and I moved to southern Maryland in 1999.
We’ve been attending SouthPoint since its initial formation in 2004. I humbly became a part of the Elder team in 2007,
where I’ve tried to be a source of joy and encouragement. For those of you that don’t know me and are wondering who I
am, I’m just your average Dr. Pepper-loving computer nerd who frequently smiles and rarely shaves.
My name is Warren Crouch. I grew up on a
small farm in Aurora, Missouri in a strong Christian household. I guess we were broke but honestly I had no clue.
We always had plenty of food from the garden and stock for meat. After graduation from high school, I became the first
in my family to go to college. About halfway through college my stubborn streak began to show. I realized I would not have
enough money to continue without asking my parents for help, so…after about 20 minutes of careful deliberation, I decided
to join the Navy. To say my mom cried would be an understatement. As soon as I could, I applied for an ROTC
scholarship and was lucky enough to get picked up on the first try…God was truly with me. On my way to officer training I
stopped to visit home. On the way to get a gallon of milk for my mom I met the girl of my dreams…and a couple of short years
later I married her…God was truly with me. Fast forward 15 years… My wife, Teresa, and our two boys, Zachery and
Nicholas, moved to Southern Maryland in 2003. We quickly found a church home and began to settle into life in SoMD. In
2004 a couple of our friends started telling us about this small group that was planting a church called SouthPoint. We
finally agreed to visit with them and felt a strong pull from God to be part of this community. Our family made the move to
SouthPoint in 2005 just prior to the public launch. We have been blessed by everyone we have come into contact with
through SouthPoint. A little less than a year ago I was asked to consider being an Elder. After careful consideration I
agreed and here we are. I am humbled by the opportunity to serve you as an elder at SouthPoint. God is truly with us!
My wife and I moved here in 1998 to start
Young Life locally in St. Mary’s County. I served on staff with Young Life for nine years. Sometime in 2004, I was
approached by South Potomac Church in LaPlata about being a church planter and in 2005 was part of a team that helped
launch SouthPoint Church. I’m just an ordinary guy who looks like he’s still in high school even though I’ve been married
for over 14 years with two kids. I’m overly competitive at everything I do and I’m a fanatical Redskin fan who loves his
family, friends, and Jesus.
